OURSTUDIO는 주어진 과제의 조건과 상황안에서 상이한 가치들간의 특별한 균형을 구축하고, 전체를 포괄하는 직관력을 발휘함으로써 프로젝트의 개성화를 추구합니다. 의미와 허무, 전체와 부분, 명확함과 모호함, 본질과 감각, 빛과 그림자, 절제와 과장, 매끈함과 투박함, 안과 밖, 효율과 여유, 복잡성과 단순함 등의 상반되는 듯 하지만 실질적으로는 서로를 내포하고 있는 여러 가치들에 관하여 함께 고민하고, 논의하는 과정에서 프로젝트만의 특별한 균형을 찾아나갑니다.
단 하나의 옳은 답이 존재하지 않는 상호 연관된 맥락 안에서의 건축적 개성화작업은 흔적, 기억, 관계, 개인과 집단의 이야기 등의 크고 작은 정보 조각들로 의미 있는 전체를 구성하는 과정이며 이는 논리적이고 합리적인 분석과 평가를 기반으로 하는 비판적 사고 뿐만 아니라 주관적이며 가치 지향적인 결정을 위한 감성적 접근사이의 균형감각을 요구합니다. 매 프로젝트마다 우리는 전체와 부분을 관통하는 의도를 생성하고, 우리가 지닌 건축적 문제해결 능력을 바탕으로 특별한 균형감각을 지닌 분위기와 실리적인 설계안을 실현시켜 나가고자 노력 합니다.

OURSTUDIO는 실내외를 아우르는 건축 공간 뿐만 아니라, 가구, 브랜딩, 도시, 조경, 전시/무대 디자인 등 우리에게 익숙한 일상적 생각과 활동을 긍정적으로 자극하고 환기시킴으로써 우리 삶에 새로운 가치를 부여하고, 결과적으로 일상적 삶의 질을 향상 시킬 수 있는 환경과 이야기를 만드는 모든 작업에 관심을 가지고 탐구합니다. 거창하지 않더라도 작은 변화와 미묘한 차이로 다양한 변주를 만들어 냄으로써 나를 둘러싼 환경을 인지하고, 의식을 확장 시 킬 수 있는 가능성과 더불어 새로운 해석과 재창작의 여지가 깃든 결과물을 추구합니다.

건축은 집단창작의 결과물이며, 건축디자이너는 마치 오케스트라의 지휘자와 같이 협의된 공통의 의도와 목적을 위해 참여자간의 엇갈리는 가치를 조율해 나갑니다. OURSTUDIO의 구성원은 특별한 균형감각을 지닌 유일무이한 결과물을 만들어 나가는 과정안에서 충돌과 협업, 고집과 경청, 통솔과 협동, 진지함과 경쾌함 등간의 치열한 균형감각과 중용의 자세를 가지고 프로젝트에 임합니다. 우리는 건축주, 시공사, 컨설턴트 등 프로젝트에 참여하는 이들과 ‘함께’ 문제를 파악하고, 탐구하며, 풀어나가는 유기체적인 과정을 향유합니다.

OURSTUDIO pursues Architectural Individuation by establishing a unique balance between various values within the parameters of each project and exercising intuitive understanding that encompasses the whole. Concepts such as meaningfulness and nothingness, parts and whole, clarity and ambiguity, substance and perception, light and shadow, moderation and excess, polished and raw, interior and exterior, efficiency and leisure, complexity and simplicity, appear contradictory but inherently contain one another. Through collaborative examination and discourse on these diverse aspects, a unique equilibrium specific to each project is discovered.
Architectural Individuation occurs within a holistic framework where there is no singular correct approach, involving the synthesis of significant details like traces, memories, relationships, and narratives of individuals and collectives. It’s a systematic and rational process necessitating a delicate balance between analytical thinking and emotionally-drive, value-oriented judgments. Each project is imbued with a comprehensive intention that permeates both its whole and parts. Drawing upon our problem-solving acumen, we endeavor to instill an environment characterized by a unique sense of balance and pragmatic design strategies.

OURSTUDIO is not only interested in architectural design encompassing interior and exterior, but also explores various other disciplines such as furniture design, branding, urban design, landscape architecture, and exhibition/stage design. These disciplines create environments and stories that add new value to our lives and, and consequently, improve the quality of our daily lives. Though not grandiose, we pursue results that have the potential to recognize the environment surrounding us and expand our consciousness through small changes and subtle differences, thus creating variations and providing room for new interpretation and recreation.

Architecture is the result of collective creatin, and like an orchestra conductor, an architectural designer coordinates the conflicting values of participants for a common intention and purpose. OURSTUDIO members work on projects with a keen sense of balance and an attitude of moderation between conflict and collaboration, stubbornness and listening, leadership and cooperation, seriousness and lightness, etc., in the process of creating unique results with a special sense of balance. We enjoy an organic process of identifying, exploring, and solving problems ‘together’ with those participating in the project, such as the client, contractors, and consultants.

김수란은 아워스튜디오 크리에이티브 디렉터이자 홍익대학교 건축도시대학 교수로 재직중이며 리서치 그룹 아워랩을 이끌고 있다. 건축스케일을 토대로 도시, 인테리어, 전시 등의 폭넓은 환경조성에 관심을 두고 다양한 작업을 진행하고 있다. 미국 카네기멜론 대학에서 건축학사를 전공하고 하버드 대학원에서 건축도시학 석사를 취득하였다. KPF, WORK AC NYC, OMA Rotterdam, TOYO ITO Tokyo 등의 사무실에서 실무 경험을 쌓고, 뉴욕의 SO-IL과 Bade Stageberg Cox 에서 Project Architect로 활동하였다. 미국 뉴욕주 건축사이며, LEED AP 친환경 건축사이다. 서울시 공공건축가이자 행안부 자문위원 등 다양한 사회활동을 펼치고 있다. 일상에서 중용을 중시하며, 몸, 마음 그리고 정신을 통합하는 전인적인 삶을 살아가고자 기쁘게 노력하고 있다.

건국대학교와 동대학원에서 건축학을 졸업하였다. MAP group, SYSTEM LAB group에서 건축 실무수련과 Salt & Pepper에서 인테리어 실무수련을 거쳐 2017년부터 아워스튜디오에 재직중이며, 다수의 업무시설, 근린생활시설, 문화집회시설 및 단독주택 설계를 계획부터 준공까지 담당하였다. 철학과 미학으로부터 발전된 구축 단계의 흐름을 현대에 적용 할 수 있는 창의적 시도와 보편적인 건축의 균형을 탐구하고 있다.

숭실대학교 건축학부 실내건축학전공을 졸업하여 아워스튜디오 디자이너로 재직중이다. 아워스튜디오의 다양한 프로젝트에서 건축설계와 인테리어 실무를 담당하였다. 일러스트, 러닝 등의 취미활동을 통해 융합적 사고와 혁신적인 문제해결능력을 함양하기 위해 노력하고 있다.

Sooran Kim is the Creative Director at OURSTUDIO and a professor at Hongik University’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning, leading the research group OURLAB. With a focus on architectural scale, she is interested in creating diverse environments such as cities, interiors, and exhibitions, and engages in various projects. She majored in architecture at Carnegie Mellon University and earned a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University. She gained practical experience at global offices such as KPF, WORK AC, OMA Rotterdam, and Toyo Ito Tokyo, and worked as a Project Architect at SO-IL and Bade Stageberg Cox in New York. She is a licensed architect in the state of New York and a LEED AP accredited professional in sustainable architecture. She also serves in various social roles, such as a public architect for the Seoul Metropolitan Government and an advisory committee member for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in Korea. She values balance in daily life and merrily strives to live a holistic life integrating body, mind, and spirit.

Seojin Hong graduated with a degree in architecture from Konkuk University and its graduate school. After gaining practical experience in architecture at MAP Group and SYSTEM LAB, and in interior design at Salt & Pepper, he has been working at OURSTUDIO since 2017. He has been responsible for planning and completing various projects, including office buildings, neighborhood living facilities, cultural assembly facilities, and single-family houses. He explores the balance between creative attempts to apply the development stages of philosophy and aesthetics to the modern era and universal architecture.

Yuna Kang graduated from Soongsil University's Department of Architecture with a major in Interior Architecture and is currently working as a designer at OURSTUDIO. She has been responsible for architectural design and interior work in various projects at OURSTUDIO. Through hobbies such as illustration and running, she strives to cultivate integrative thinking and innovative problem-solving skills.
